Alison here, with no ordinary recipe this time. This one's extra special.
It's a detox/flush for your poor old liver, that gets "sluggish" after months and years of processing all the fat, sugar, and alcohol we consume.
It's a good idea to do a liver / gallbladder flush like this once per season (4x per year), or any time you've been "overdoing" it a bit with rich foods like meat and dairy, sugar, and/or alcohol.
You'll want to do this for FIVE DAYS, first thing in the morning.
I LOVE the taste of it (but I'm weird) and it feels amazing in my body- better than coffee!
It's also best if you avoid dairy, fatty/red meats, coffee, sugar, and alcohol for the 5 days you're cleansing your liver. You want to give it a real break so it can heal itself.
Select ORGANIC ingredients- you're DETOXING, after all, you don't want pesticides and other chemicals sneaking in while you do it.
In spring and summer, use citrus juice as noted below.
In fall and winter, use fresh apple, grape, or a combination of the two.
Do all your shopping before you begin, so everything's at hand in the morning each day.
From day one to day five the recipe is basically the same, but you're going to add one clove of garlic and one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil each day:
ONE of each on day one,
TWO of each on day two,
up to FIVE of each on day five.
Here you go!
Large drinking glass (at least 20oz)
3-4 juice oranges
1 lime (enough for 8oz total juice)
1 inch piece of fresh organic ginger
1-5 medium cloves organic garlic (1 on day 1, 2 on day 2, etc)
1-5 Tbsp cold-pressed extra virgin organic olive oil (1 on day 1, 2 on day 2, etc)
8 oz freshly filtered water
Put 8oz freshly squeezed juice into your blender
Add the appropriate number of whole peeled garlic cloves
Add 1" piece organic fresh ginger- don't peel or chop, just throw it in
Add 8oz fresh filtered water
Add the correct number of Tablespoons olive oil
Blend everything for about 60 seconds
Drink it all down- don't sip it.
